A vital component of the Developing Instructional Readiness for Educators of Career and Technical (DIRECT) Education teacher training for work-based alternative teacher certification rests in the education and training of our Instructors and Mentors. CTE mentors provide crucial guidance and support in helping new CTE teachers succeed. DIRECT is a comprehensive support system for beginning CTE teachers as they navigate their first years in the classroom. This session teaches DIRECT mentors how to best document and verify mentoring interactions with beginning CTE teachers in TEAMS using an established professional learning community. This Electric Scooter project teaches students the fundamentals of using DMM for voltage drops, motor controls, battery voltage circuits (series and parallel), speed controls, and OHM's Law. Students will also use skills in soldering, determining gear ratios, and understand how different types of switches operate.

This presentation will explain how some teachers in today’s society perceive students from different walks of life and ways personal biases may impede the educational process for more students than we want to believe.  You will also learn how to make necessary changes to grow as an educator and become a great teacher.  Finally, you will have access to strategies that will help any educator demonstrate consistency with standard operating procedures, and analyze data to assist with professional growth.  I once heard you must first know your students in order to educate them. That is true, however, I say, you must truly C.A.R.E. about your students in order to educate them and make a positive impact on their lives.

192 As part of the ASVAB Career Exploration Program, the OCCU-Find is a catalog of careers with job-related information all geared toward helping students identify satisfying occupations.
The ASVAB assesses a student's ability to learn new skills and is a predictor of success in training and education programs regardless of post-secondary intention.  Beyond a "Career Readiness" indicator, the ASVAB enables students to access the Career Exploration Portal (CEP).  Armed with an understanding of their skills, interests, and work values, students can explore careers, which coincide with their unique profile.  As part of the Career Exploration Program, the OCCU-Find is a catalog of careers with job-related information all geared toward helping students identify satisfying occupations. Careers include multiple pathways to gain career field entry, from college or work-based learning options to Military or Federal Government positions, so students can evaluate their options. Once students have identified careers they are interested in pursuing, they work with their School Counselor to use these tools to plan their future.

243 Wired for Success: Unpacking EV Components, Systems, and Safety
In this hands-on learning session, automotive educators will gain a comprehensive overview of electric vehicle (EV) components and configuration. From batteries and motors to charging systems and controllers, participants will learn how EVs differ from traditional vehicles and learn tips to effectively teach this content to students. Additionally, the session will cover safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) specifically for working on EVs. Educators will learn the importance of proper tooling and procedures to mitigate risks associated with EV maintenance and repair. By the end of the session, attendees will have the knowledge and resources to begin incorporating EV curriculum and equipment into their classrooms and shops, preparing their students for the future of automotive technology.
