21 Cornrow Curves: The Mathematical and Computational Significance of Cornrow Braiding

If you work in cosmetology, braiding, and/or natural hair care, this session introduces a visual program called Cornrow Curves, which helps children explore the geometric significance and computational thinking of cornrow braiding. Cornrow Curves is part of a suite of educational applications called Culturally Situated Design Tools (CSDTs), that has supported the integration of arts and culture into STEM education for over a decade. All tools on the CSDT website are free.

22 Exploring Barbering Instructors' Clipper and Trimmer Expertise to Teach Computing and Engineering

Join barbering instructors who will share what they know about clippers and trimmers while developing physical computing skills to support engineering and computing education in their classrooms. This presentation/workshop is three hours and includes an opportunity to participate in a research survey. There will be a short lecture and hands-on activities.
