Explore the new half-credit Personal Finance course standard, Building Financial Security. Take a deep dive into key indicators, including defining basic investment concepts, the relationship between risk management and rate of return, funding requirements at different stages of life, Social Security benefits, types of long-term retirement investments, estate planning, developing an investment portfolio, and the role of insurance in long term financial planning. Potential lesson plans, best practices, and lots of no-cost resources will be demonstrated. This session is geared to those on the Personal Finance Track.

South Carolina has instituted a new half-credit Personal Finance requirement for high school graduation. New this year, due to an overwhelming number of requests, is an Honors version. Bill Joy, curriculum developer and Personal Finance instructor at Lucy Beckham High School in Mount Pleasant, SC, will take you through the differences between the two courses and explain the best way to execute PFH in your school or district.
