113 What Teachers Need to Teach CS
Monday June 24, 2024 2:30pm - 3:30pm EDT
There is a Computer Science (CS) teacher shortage in South Carolina. Can we design (or improve upon) a plan to increase teachers' confidence and knowledge to prepare CS students effectively? We will discuss, design, and improve upon an accelerated summer boot camp model that can prepare teachers to lead advanced CS programs in your K-12 schools. This plan represents a 4-week summer hybrid program with project-based learning workshops, a learning community, research-practice partnerships, robotics, and a capstone project. Teachers will be prepared to sit the CS Praxis exam, and increase their motivation and efficacy for teaching CS, and improve their students' performance and level of interest in CS.
